Grade 1A MARCH Newsletter
Dear Parents and Guardians,
February has been a fabulous time in grade one. We’ve been working hard to read clocks and learn time to the hour and half hour. In writing, the kids have been practising writing sentences with finger spaces between words, capital letters and periods. We are also trying to spell words correctly by looking at the Word Wall where all our spelling words are posted.
The dance-a-thon was a big success. We had a great time showing off our moves with the rest of the Taylor Evans grade ones. Thank you for your support of this fund-raiser.
CURRICULUM HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH:
* Learning the names and values of pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, loonies and toonies
* Adding money values together (loonies, toonies, quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies). Please also practice at home as this is a difficult concept.
* Building a sight vocabulary by practising 5 spelling words per week
*Reading words (and sounding out) through “Shared, Modeled and Guided Reading”
* letter writing
Reminders:
*** It might be a good idea to have extra socks and pants in your child’s backpack as Spring melting often leads to wet clothing
